LGBTQIA+ Research and Outreach Endowed Fund

Across the University of Pittsburgh, students have expressed an interest in conducting research and scholarship related to issues facing LGBTQIA+ communities, such as health, history, the arts and humanities, & etc. However, many of these same students have expressed barriers in being able to conduct this area of research. The LGBTQIA+ Research and Outreach Endowment responds to this need by leveraging resources from generous donors to make grants available to students who do not have the resources to engage in LGBTQIA+ research. The endowment is used to support a wide range of LGBTQIA+ student research and scholarship.

Pitt Queer Professionals (PQP) is committed to supporting undergraduate and graduate LGBTQIA+ student research and scholarship across the University of Pittsburgh by providing financial resources to alleviate any burdens to conducting this underexplored area of knowledge. The LGBTQIA+ Research and Outreach Endowed Fund is the first endowment at the University of Pittsburgh dedicated to supporting student LGBTQIA+ research and/or scholarship. The endowment was made possible by generous donors and a small group of faculty and staff who are passionate about LGBTQIA+ scholarship and have engaged in extensive research in this area. Our committee works closely with the Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program (GSWS) and includes faculty and staff who are committed to social justice and awareness from an intersectional perspective, including work that addresses race, class, religion, or other aspects of the LGBTQIA+ experience that are impacted by structures of privilege and power. The goal of the endowment is to support the ongoing efforts of emerging LGBTQIA+ scholars and raise the prestige of this area of research. We encourage all of you to join our mission to make substantial change via this project!
